The Buddhist Rain Retreat takes place every year for three month from July to October. The festival marking the end of this period is called Ok Phansa. Those events takes place nationwide, though the way it is celebrated is often different. One unique place is in Mae Hong Son province. This is where I went to join their celebrations.

Over the weekend, I was invited by TAT to fly down to Phuket to attend the inaugural L’Etape Thailand by Le Tour de France in neighboring Phang-nga province. This was held on fully closed roads and under professional race conditions in the spectacular scenery of Phang-nga province in southern Thailand.

I love exploring new areas around Thailand. I also love revisiting areas in my own backyard from a new perspective. The best way to do this is to stay in a hotel even if it isn’t far from your home. This way you get to see the area from dawn to dusk. I often get invites from hotels to come and stay. I usually turn most of them down as I don’t do hotel reviews and I don’t want anything overly commercial on my website. However, I do sometimes take up their offer if it looks like a good hotel and that I want to explore the area or attend a nearby event. But I always make it clear that I must be under no obligation to write anything about the hotel or even mention it on social media. In the case of the Millenium Hilton Bangkok hotel, I really did enjoy my stay. As did many of my followers judging by their replies.

Although I have travelled around Thailand for many years now and have attended many festivals, there are still some major events that I haven’t yet photographed. One festival that I have been wanting to attend for several years now is Um Phra Dam Nam in Phetchabun. This is a bathing ceremony for the sacred image Phra Buddha Maha Dhammaraja. Every year, around October, the governor of Phetchabun dives under water six times with the Buddha image.

This weekend I went on a two-day media trip to Pak Chong in Nakhon Ratchasima. Our first stop was just over two hours northeast of Bangkok. The theme of the trip was “Healthy and Wellness”. So, a mixture of organic farms & spas. Click here for a live google map.

This weekend I flew to Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in Southern Thailand for a two-day trip to visit the royally-initiated Pak Phanang River Basin Development Project and Baan Laem Homestay. This is part of the King’s Wisdom five tourism routes across Thailand. Click here for a Google map of all of the places that we visited.

This weekend I went on a 3-day trip to Chanthaburi with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. This province is in Eastern Thailand and is often bypassed by foreign tourists.
