On this page I will be detailing day trips that I am planning on doing in the coming weeks and months. It is mainly here for my own benefit but if you have any suggestions of new places that I should visit, then please post a comment below. Once I have visited these place, I will move them to the Recent Day Trips section. As usual, you can follow me on these tours on Twitter @RichardBarrow.
TRIP TO NAKHON CHAISI DISTRICT IN NAKHON PATHOM PROVINCE
There was a travel article in the Bangkok Post recently called A Decent Interval which reminded me that I haven’t been to visit the Jesada Technik Museum in Nakhon Pathom yet. The same article also talked about Thana market in Nakhon Chaisi district. Both of them are in the same district. I was thinking that on the way back I would drop in on the Thai Film Museum. I haven’t been yet. But it is only open on Saturday afternoons. Near to that is the giant walking Buddha called Phutthamonthon. Check out my Nakhon Pathom Province page for other places that I have already visited in this area.
TRIP TO ANG THONG PROVINCE
There was news recently of a new floating market that has opened in Ang Thong (see here). Probably not a good idea to rush there until more shops have opened but I will go soon. Nearby is the giant seated Buddha image which has been on my list for a long time. Please note, I don’t have the exact location for the market yet.
TRIP TO NAKHON NAYOK PROVINCE
A few years ago a Thai horror movie came out called The Coffin. It was about people who were eager to be buried alive in order to gain merit. I didn’t realise at the time that it was based on a true ritual. In 2008 I posted on the ThailandQA forums an article from the International Herald Tribune about this ritual (see here). I forgot all about until another story was recently printed again in the IHT (see here). So, I think it is time to go there and take a look for myself. I have already mapped the temple.
