A must for anyone visiting this province is Phrathat Phanom which can be found in That Phanom District, about 50 kilometres from the provincial town. It is an important temple for people who were born on a Sunday. Since 1942, it has also been recognized as a royal class temple. The original structure collapsed in 1975 as it was very old and had been badly damaged by storms. A new one was quickly built from public donations. Inside the structure are relics of the Buddha.
